Sadly, Whisper passed away in January 2007 after an illness, leaving Miranda without
a partner to continue this vitally important work.

The Whisper Fund was established in 2005 after Whisper first became ill. The Fund’s
primary priority at this time is to purchase and train a new hearing assistance/crisis
intervention dog for Miranda. Once this mission has been accomplished, the Fund will
continue to support other Human & Human-Canine crisis intervention teams, allowing
them to provide psychological and spiritual aid to victims and emergency response
teams at local and national disasters.
It is during these times of crisis when the everyday heroism
of Americans shines brightest. Millions of us open our
hearts, searching for ways—from offering prayers to
donating blood to making financial contributions—that we
can fill our compassionate yearning to somehow be of
support to the victims of these catastrophes.

During such crises, the courageous emergency teams and
rescue workers who respond also put themselves at great
risk, sacrificing their own physical, mental, and emotional,
health in their drive to be of service.
Often, an elite team of Crisis Intervention experts is summoned to support the acute
mental and emotional needs of these heroes. One of the most memorable intervention
teams over the past decade was the unique human/canine pairing of Miranda Alcott, a
hearing-impaired Crisis Counselor, and her service dog partner, Whisper.
